"The Feast of Dedication" Text:

I grew up celebrating Hanukkah. It was a tradition that my family celebrated. I don't know if I even knew the story about the miracle of the oil. I learned a lot of things over the years. I learned a whole lot last year. I am still learning. I never knew how deep the Feast of Dedication (known as Hanukkah) really was. The number eight is the number for dedication. It took eight days for them to rededicate the Temple after it was defiled. The Feast of Dedication is not in the Old Testament. It is in the New Testament. It is in John 10:22-23. It was during the Feast of Dedication that Jesus affirmed His Divinity. I started celebrating the holiday as Hanukkah as tradition. Now, I celebrate it as the Feast of Dedication to honor the Lord. This holiday is not a commanded Feast of the Lord but this holiday is Biblical. In the book of 2 Maccabees the Feast of Dedication is described as a second Feast of Tabernacles. Jesus celebrated the Feast of Dedication. I want to honor the holidays that honor the Lord. I want to be dedicated to the Lord. This day, this holiday, and every day I dedicate myself to the Lord.
