Akron Living Church of God Sabbath Service Call Notes for February 28th 2026
Sermonette:
When we think about the fourth Commandment we think about it as a sacred time to rest.
Exodus 20:9
We live in a society that we don't have to work six days.
God establishes a rhythm.
"Six Days You Shall Labor"
Adam was given the instruction right off the bat.
Genesis 2:15
Tend can be translated cultivate.
God gave Adam work to do.
Genesis 3
Work provides responsibility.
It gives us motivation and purpose.
The Bible warns of idleness.
Proverbs 12:11
If you waste your time on idle things you are being foolish.
Colossians 3:22-23
Obey your boss.
Our effort honors God.
A lot of work and effort goes unseen .
God sees all that we do.
He sees our heart even if others don't.
Ecclesiastes 5:18
There are a lot of things that come in balance.
God wants us to rejoice.
The Sabbath command teaches us what we are to do on the Sabbath but it also teaches what we should be doing the other six days of the week.
Our work honors the Lord.

"Lay Down Your Life"
Our citizenship is in Heaven.
Simple does not mean easy.
Human loyalty usually has limits.
There is a limit to human love and forgiveness.
To forgive you only have to do it once.
To not, you have to do it all day.
Romans 5:7
This was agape love.
It was sacrificial.
It was selfless.
1 John 3:10-
Jesus unconditionally valued all human life over His Life.
John 15:13
Christ laid down His Life for His friends and for those that would be His friends.
Christ defines friends as those that obey Him.
James 2:23
Genesis 12:1-3,7,40
The first Commandment is love the Lord more than anything.
The Lord tested Abraham on that.
Matthew 10:37
Genesis 22:1-
The Lord tests us.
He wants to see if we will be faithful.
Abraham knew Who was asking.
He was a friend of God.
There was trust.
He trusted there would be a good outcome.
Do you understand how God is operating in your life?
God puts us in situations to see how we will respond.
He is testing us every day.
When we come into trials we need to think what is God looking for.
What is the outcome God is looking for?
Isaac carrying the fire wood reminds us of Christ carrying the wooden stake.
Christ has provided the Lamb.
Sometimes things are so difficult we don't see the other side of it.
Jesus Christ as the Lamb of God to take away the sins of the world.
God is a planner.
He created everything.
We are living at the end of 6000 years.
We have to make sure we are walking with God.
Revelation 13:8
Jesus Christ was slain from the foundation of the world.
He did die once for all.
Only the Logos, the Word, could do this.
It was done willingly.
Hebrews 10:8-19
Christ's Body was purposely slaughtered and His Blood still covers those that accept It.
He willingly offered Himself.
We have fellowship on the Sabbath day.
John 10:14-
God the Father raised Him.
The Son of God laid His Life Himself.
Christ's sacrifice was intentional, informed, and willingly.
God does not ask us to be slaughtered.
Laying down our life is done through costly service.
Because Christ became the sin barrier that separated Him from the Father.
God cannot look on sin.
We trust God will keep His Word.
Will we allow idols to come in?
Psalm 22 is the prophecy of the first coming of the Messiah and what He went through.
We have a privilege to know what our Savior knowingly and willingly did.
Isaiah 52:14
Isaiah 53:7-
He was willing to go through that.
That sacrifice is perpetually effective.
Hebrews 4:15
We are fighting our old nature.
He gave His Entire Self for me.
He gave everything.
He was a whole burnt offering.
God requires us to lay down our life in a different way.
John 13:36-
Weakness springs from carnality.
John 21
Luke 14:25-
For us bearing the cross is willing to die to self.
There are regular battles that we face.
We have to allow Christ to fight our battles for us.
It's a daily battle.
That Blood represents costly love.
Matthew 9:13
Hosea 6:6
God's priority is costly love.
God is looking for our heart to show mercy.
God is Love.
Laying down our life day to day looks like costly love and mercy.
Psalm 103:10

Turn from your evil ways.
We can be discouraged.
God's Mercy comes against anything we come against.
It is not hopeless.
We must be diligent.
God makes His Mercy readily to us for the asking.

Something must die each day.

God sends us through what we need to go through.
We can embrace it or resent it.
Blessings come through obedience.

Fasting is a tool to draw near to God.
Where is our focus?
What are we focusing on?
Romans 12:1
We have to change.
We must change.
What will you change today to solidify your relationship with God?
We are called to be living sacrifices.
It's called costly love.
John 15:9-
How did Christ love us?
We see what He gave willingly and lovingly.
Laying down our life means choosing to deny self to serve others.
2 Corinthians 5:12
Colossians 3:1-
God is testing us.
Once He knows where our heart is, He will make eternal life for us.
Will God be our God?
The sinful carnal nature is what we must fight.
